Summer is here, temperatures are rising, and after long days in the sun our skin starts asking for a little extra care and hydration. And you might be wondering: what does all this have to do with Ruja, a rural coworking and creative space nestled in the beautiful inland area of Sardinia? We’ll get there in a moment. What’s Included in the Experience We’ve designed a relaxing afternoon centered around wellbeing, meaningful connections, and local innovation. We’ll gather beside a private spa pool in the garden of a charming historic residence filled with art, design, and character, located in the unique red-stone village of Banari, in the heart of Sardinia’s Meilogu region. In this peaceful setting, we’ll take time to slow down and rediscover the simple ritual of skincare with intention, awareness, and presence. Together with Sandra, founder of the Kariasa skincare line, you’ll learn the basics of a natural skincare routine designed to support and enhance your skin while embracing its natural uniqueness. During the experience, you’ll get to try a brand-new line of natural skincare products that are not only Made in Italy and not only Made in Sardinia, but actually created right here in the Meilogu region. Kariasa is born from an extract of the Bonnanaro Cherry, a rare local variety grown just a few minutes from Banari. Rich in naturally occurring polyphenols, these skincare products help nourish, illuminate, and protect the skin through a pro-age approach to beauty. And we can’t wait for you to experience them for yourself. In the next section, we’ll explain why this project is so special. BANARI | JULY 3RD, 2026 | 5:00 PMLOCATION: BOUTIQUE B&B S’ASILO Your Experience Includes Only 15 Spots Available Online booking is required. You can also enhance your experience by adding a platter of carefully selected local Sardinian products: Why This Brand Is So Special (And Why Ruja Wanted to Build an Experience Around It) Ruja is more than a coworking space. It’s a place where remote workers, creatives, entrepreneurs, travelers, and curious minds come together to discover inspiring people, meaningful projects, and authentic experiences in Sardinia. Many of our events are born from collaborations with individuals who are creating something unique, and Kariasa is one of those stories. On July 3rd, at Boutique B&B S’Asilo in Banari, we’ll do much more than learn a skincare routine. Between a glass of Spritz and local food, we’ll discover a natural skincare brand built around an idea that could help preserve the future of an extraordinary local agricultural heritage: the Bonnanaro Cherry. Without innovative approaches, this rare Sardinian cultivar could gradually disappear. Like many traditional agricultural varieties, it faces increasing challenges due to climate instability and changing economic conditions. A Local Cherry Variety at Risk of Disappearing The Bonnanaro Cherry is as precious as it is delicate. Its production is limited, and the fruit is particularly vulnerable to the increasingly unpredictable weather patterns affecting agriculture across the Mediterranean. As cultivation becomes less economically sustainable, many farmers abandon it in favor of more resilient commercial varieties. The result? A gradual loss of biodiversity, local knowledge, and agricultural identity. But Sandra and Federico chose a different path… How Sandra and Federico from Zonca Farm Turned an Intuition into a Skincare Brand After harvesting Bonnanaro cherries, Sandra and Federico noticed something unexpected: their hands felt noticeably softer than usual. Curious about this effect, they decided to investigate. Laboratory analysis revealed an exceptionally high concentration of polyphenols—natural compounds known for their antioxidant, soothing, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory properties. Instead of discarding cherries unsuitable for sale due to weather-related imperfections, they found a way to transform them into something valuable. Those fruits now become the foundation of a powerful natural extract used to create Kariasa, a skincare line entirely developed and produced in Sardinia. A project that not only creates high-quality natural cosmetics but also contributes to preserving a unique local cultivar and supporting a more sustainable agricultural model. And who better to tell this story than Sandra herself? Join us in Banari on July 3rd at 5:00 PM and discover it firsthand. Reserve Your Spot Places are limited, and advance booking is required. If you haven’t booked yet, you can do so here:

The Golden Onion of Banari is the symbolic product of the village and one of the best-known gastronomic excellences of the Meilogu region. It is a native cultivar, grown for generations in the fields surrounding the town and distinguished by unique characteristics in terms of shape, color, and flavor thanks to the area’s environmental conditions. Its appearance is immediately recognizable: the bulbs are large, flattened, and slightly concave at the top. Their weight can range from 400 grams to over 1.5 kilograms. The outer skins display the distinctive golden color from which it takes its name, while the inside is light, tending toward ivory. What makes it especially appreciated is its sweet and delicate flavor, which lends itself perfectly to many traditional local recipes as well as contemporary cuisine. For many years, the Golden Onion of Banari represented an important resource for the local agricultural economy. It was cultivated in large quantities and sold across markets throughout northern Sardinia. Starting in the 1950s, however, production gradually declined, partly due to the abandonment of rural areas and the lack of generational turnover among producers. Cultivation survived mainly within family settings, slowly risking disappearance. Since 2003, thanks to the creation of the Golden Onion Festival of Banari and the enhancement initiatives promoted by the local community, this agricultural tradition has regained new attention. Today, the onion is known throughout Sardinia and is often mentioned among Italy’s most appreciated varieties for both quality and flavor. Even today, the production process maintains a strong connection to the rhythms of traditional rural life. The seeds, passed down from generation to generation, are prepared at the end of summer and cultivated without the use of chemical fertilizers. After the seedbed stage, the young plants are transplanted into the fields and carefully tended for months until the summer harvest, which is still carried out entirely by hand. The Golden Onion Festival of Banari was created precisely to celebrate and promote this agricultural and cultural heritage. During the event, the village hosts tastings, food workshops, showcooking sessions, music performances, excursions, exhibitions, and spaces dedicated to local art and traditions. In this way, the onion becomes a meeting point between gastronomy, culture, and local identity. For 2026, the festival will take place on July 18 and 19. All information about the upcoming edition is available on the official website: www.sagracipollabanari.it
